Citation Gap Terms of Service
The terms for using Citation Gap: what it does, the daily limit, acceptable use, sharing reports, liability, and how to stop using it.
Last updated: 1 October 2026
These terms cover your use of Citation Gap, a connector for AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT that audits web pages for on-page Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) signals. By connecting Citation Gap to your assistant and signing in, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not connect or use the service.
Citation Gap is provided by John Lawson ("I", "me"). You can contact me at [email protected].
1. What Citation Gap does
You give Citation Gap the URL of a public web page, and optionally a target query and some competitor URLs. Citation Gap fetches the public content of those pages, analyses their on-page signals, and returns a report: a score, a list of issues, and suggested fixes. Each report is stored at a shareable link and can be downloaded as a PDF.
2. Who can use it
You need a Google account to sign in, and you must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age for using online services in your country if that is higher. If you use Citation Gap on behalf of a company or a client, you confirm you are authorised to do so.
3. Daily limit
Each account can generate a limited number of reports per day (currently 3). The limit resets at 00:00 UTC. A request that fails because a page could not be read does not count toward the limit. I may change the limit, and the current limit is shown to you if you reach it.
4. Acceptable use
When you use Citation Gap, you agree not to:
- submit pages you have no legitimate reason to analyse, or use the service to harass or target any person or organisation;
- try to get around the daily limit, for example by creating extra accounts;
- try to work around a website's restrictions on automated access. Citation Gap respects those restrictions and will not audit a page that blocks automated readers;
- probe, overload or attack the service or its infrastructure, or use it to reach private, internal or non-public addresses;
- resell or redistribute the service itself, or present it as your own product;
- use it for anything unlawful.
I may suspend access for anyone who breaches these rules.
5. Reports and sharing
Each report is stored at a link made of a long random code. Anyone who has the link can open the report, so share links only with people you want to see them. You can delete all your reports at any time (see section 9).
You may use, copy and share the reports you generate, including with your clients.
Reports are based on the public content of the pages you submit. That content belongs to the owners of those pages. Reports quote short excerpts only where needed to explain a finding.
6. Accuracy and no guarantees
Citation Gap gives guidance based on the page content it could read at the time, checked against on-page signals for search and AI answer engines. It cannot guarantee that any page will be cited, ranked or shown by any AI engine or search engine. Those systems are run by third parties, change often and are outside my control. Treat reports as recommendations, and check any change before you publish it.
Parts of some reports, such as content-gap ideas and suggested copy, are written by the AI assistant you use, based on data Citation Gap provides. Review them as you would any AI output.
7. Availability and changes
Citation Gap is provided "as is" and "as available". I may change, suspend or stop the service, or any part of it, at any time. I will try to give notice of significant changes where I reasonably can.
Citation Gap is currently provided free of charge. If that changes, I will update these terms and give notice before any charge applies to you.
8. Liability
To the extent the law allows, I am not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, traffic, rankings, data or business opportunity, arising from your use of Citation Gap or from relying on a report.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.
9. Ending your use
You can stop using Citation Gap at any time by disconnecting it in your assistant's connector settings. To delete everything Citation Gap holds for you, ask Citation Gap to "delete my data" while signed in. This permanently removes your account record and every report you have generated.
10. Privacy
How Citation Gap handles your data is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
11. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change is significant, I will make reasonable efforts to give notice. Continuing to use Citation Gap after a change means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, except where the law of your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings locally.
